Educational Technology Services  (ETS) Summer Projects

It was a very active summer for ETS and many exciting technology enhancements were implemented. The following list highlights some of the most significant changes.

VC 6.0 – Virtual Campus 6.0 is the next generation of MCC’s unique classroom imaging system.  VC 6.0 distributes legal MCC software to appropriate classrooms and provides a reliable and flexible teaching environment. VC 6.0 is based on the Windows 7 operating system.

Windows 7 - ETS rolled out Microsoft’s new Operating System, Windows 7, to all Smart Classrooms, Electric Learning Centers (ELCs) and in the Office and Computer Programs (OCP) labs. In addition, redeployed office computers, new PCs and laptops delivered over the summer have the new Windows 7 Operating System and Office 2007 Suite installed.

PaperCut - ETS implemented a College-wide print management solution, PaperCut, to reduce excessive student printing. The goal of this solution is to accommodate the printing needs for most students while reducing excessive paper use.  For more information on PaperCut, see: https://libguides.monroecc.edu/printing .

myMCC – the new MCC portal is available to all employees. myMCC provides a gateway for easy access to many Internet-based resources and MCC systems through a single sign-on.  MCC employees enter the myMCC portal by using their current MCC network ID and password. myMCC can be accessed from any computer with an Internet connection on a 24/7 basis.   No special software is required.

Angel Upgrade – The Angel system (part of the SUNY Learning Network) was upgraded to version 7.4. Angel provides a variety of online course management tools that can be used for both online and face-to-face classes. Please contact the Office of Online Learning at ext. 3430 for Angel training and additional information.

E-reserves in Angel - The Angel  E-Reserve system is the successor to  MCC’s electronic reserves system. Angel E-Reserves  was created to house copyrighted books, chapters and videos that fall under the Fair Use agreement or have received permissions for use.

Banner 8 - MCC’s enterprise-wide Banner administrative system was upgraded from Banner 7 to Banner 8. This upgrade provides greater flexibility and access to resources for faculty, students and employees.

New Classroom Technology – Many classrooms were upgraded with SMART Boards, control systems and PCs. For training on classroom technology, please contact Learning Resources at ext. 3430.

Faculty teaching schedules on Outlook - All MCC faculty teaching schedules were automatically added to Outlook calendars to facilitate meeting scheduling. The appointments are generated from Banner including the course name, section, semester, location, date and time for each class. Please note that any course related changes in Banner will be reflected in  Outlook. These Outlook appointments  can be modified or deleted as desired.

Name Connector - NameConnector is a 24/7 telephone business tool that allows callers to MCC’s switchboard to contact anyone at Monroe Community College by simply saying their name or department. When fully enabled, calls to MCC’s main numbers, 292-2000 (Brighton Campus) and 262-1600 (Damon Campus) will be directed to the NameConnector service. NameConnector answers calls on the second ring at any time of the day or night, and it provides a dynamic, single source directory for the College.
