Newspaper Article Examines Local Skills Gap Issue, Highlights MCC's Efforts
The March 23 issue of the Democrat and Chronicle includes a cover-page article on the types of jobs that are going unfilled in the Rochester area and the high need for workers with appropriate skills.
Reporter Bennett Loudon interviewed MCC optics student Roxanne Toufexis and Vice President Todd Oldham. The article identified several MCC initiatives aimed at resolving the talent shortage, including a 2013
survey
of local businesses on their workforce skills needs. It also mentioned the upcoming on-campus conference (
Closing the Skills Gap: Challenges and Opportunities for Higher Education
)
focused on exploring unconventional strategies to address the skills gap.
Many thanks to adjunct faculty Jim Crittenden for bringing the optics student to our attention.
