With the spring semester approaching, The Sixth Act would like to remind the MCC community of our upcoming events. Please contact the below individuals for further information.
First, to complement VaPA’s April production of Arthur Miller’s classic play The Crucible, The Sixth Act will host a trip to Geva on February 25 to see Arthur Miller’s lesser-known play The Price, followed by a special post-show discussion with the artists involved in the production. Geva describes the play: “Sixteen years after the death of their father, two brothers…meet in the attic of their childhood home…. As the brothers examine their parents’ possessions, they revisit the past…and years of pent-up rivalry burst forth.” The Washington Post writes, “Miller at his best…. The heart very nearly breaks,” and The New York Times writes, “One of the most entertaining plays that Miller has ever written…superbly theatrical.” Student tickets will cost $15 each and will need to be ordered by February 11. Second, The Sixth Act will host its Third Annual Student Playwriting Competition in the Spring. Scripts must be submitted to Tina Morrill at Brighton or to Anne Kirkpatrick at Damon City Campus by April 9. Three winning playwrights will receive $100 each plus a staged reading of their original work on Thursday, May 6, at 7 p.m., in the Black Box Theater. Finally, The Sixth Act will continue to run Drama on Demand, an ongoing curriculum tool that brings student actors into literature classrooms, encouraging students to talk to each other across disciplines about theatre. Formed in 2004, The Sixth Act aims to broaden and deepen an interdisciplinary appreciation of drama at MCC and to connect MCC faculty, staff, and students with events in Rochester’s theatre community. It seeks as its leaders faculty, staff, and students drawn from a variety of academic disciplines and departments.
The Sixth Act is supported by MCC’s Creative Arts Committee and Liberal Arts Program.
