Public Safety Resources

In light of recent events that have occurred across our nation, the Department of Public Safety would like to highlight available resources that help keep you safe and secure while on campus.

First, our Campus Peace Officers are highly trained and prepared to respond to any critical incident or crises that may occur. MCC's Campus Peace Officers attend the same basic police academy training and regular annual in-service training as our law enforcement colleagues from area municipal police agencies. Our recent active threat training conducted in Building 12 also highlights our efforts to maintain efficient response tactics. Additionally, we are the campus community's first responders but work closely with the Brighton and Rochester Police Departments to provide a comprehensive response to critical incidents, which may occur on any of our campuses.

Although the Department of Public Safety's administrative offices are located in Building 21, Campus Peace Officers and Guards are deployed throughout the Brighton and Downtown Campuses as well as the Applied Technologies Center. This allows our staff to quickly respond to situations and provide necessary resources.

The Public Safety website (http://www.monroecc.edu/depts/pstd/) offers a number of resources to assist students, faculty, and staff in the area of emergency preparedness and active threats. Please take a few minutes to view the "Lockdown Training" and "Run, Hide, Fight" videos. Both provide sound advice and practical steps to take should one of these unlikely situations occur at MCC. Our website also provides helpful response guides as well as information on the College's emergency plans and critical incident management training.

Representatives from the Public Safety Department are happy to meet with any department or office that wishes to discuss active threat concerns, upon request. The Public Safety team will also offer "lunch and learn" sessions designed to provide the campus community with additional information regarding emergency preparedness, public safety training, and a Q&A session for any concerns which you may have. Dates for those sessions will be forthcoming.

If you wish to schedule a training session, please contact me at the number below or e-mail me at tperez7@monroecc.edu. If your need is immediate, your Public Safety staff are available 24-hours a day at (585)292-2911 or x2911.
