AmeriCorps Members Making a Difference

Sixteen members of MCC's AmeriCorps program teamed up with 25 youth volunteers from Generation Give Back, a program of American Red Cross, for Make a Difference Day on Saturday, October 26. Their efforts were recognized in a feature article by Corydon Ireland in Sunday's Democrat and Chronicle. The group pitched in at the Rochester Presbyterian Home on Thurston Road to rake leaves, clean windows, and help get ready for winter by completing gardening tasks and moving lawn furniture into storage. The Rochester AmeriCorps and Red Cross teams were joined by several energetic residents of the facility, resulting in a volunteer age span of over 70 years! After the work was done, the young and not-so-young relaxed and chatted over cider and donuts. Created by USA WEEKEND, Make a Difference Day is an annual event involving over 2 million volunteers across the country in a wide variety of community service projects.
