MCC Daily Tribune

Your package has been delivered!

It's that time of year when everyone is shopping online for the holidays. This makes you more vulnerable to the scams in which you receive an email that appears to be from UPS, Amazon, FedEx, USPS, etc. with information about the status of your package. Often there is a link or an attachment for "tracking", which is actually a means to deliver malware to your computer.

We learned of the risks of logging onto personal accounts from MCC computers from this summer's keylogger virus infection. Another reason to not do personal business such as online shopping using your work account is that when you receive these scam emails you will know they are not legitimate because there would be no linkage of your order to your work email address.

We have also seen an uptick in fake holiday cards that appear to be coming from co-workers or administration. Note that if the warning banner is on the email then it did not come from an employee email account.

If you receive any of these emails, please forward them to spamsubmission@monroecc.edu and then delete them.
