Community Fridays for a Cause

The next “Community Fridays for a Cause” is Friday, March 1st.

The Genesee Region Special Olympics will be the recipient of donations raised through the “Community Fridays for a Cause” program.

The New York Special Olympics serves 55,698 (2011 census) athletes, making Special Olympics New York the largest program in the United States and the sixth largest program in the world. Special Olympics New York has its headquarters in Schenectady, with offices in the
Long Island, New York City, Hudson Valley, Central, Western, Capital and Genesee regions. The Genesee office serves Monroe, Wayne, Ontario, Wyoming, Genesee, Seneca, Yates, Livingston, Steuben, Schuyler, and Chemung counties.

The mission of the Special Olympics is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-style sports for all children and adults with intellectual disabilities giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in a sharing of skills and friendship with their families, Special Olympics athletes and the community. Through their participation in Special Olympics athletes gain confidence and build a positive self-image, which carries into the classroom, the home, the workplace and the community.

Special Olympics is funded primarily by donations from individuals, corporations and foundations.  Special Olympics never charges the athletes, their families or caregivers to train or compete.  The Special Olympics provides memorable and rewarding opportunities for both athletes and volunteers.  All donations received from the Community Fridays program will go directly to the Genesee Region Special Olympics and will help support our local athletes and their athletic endeavors.

Don’t forget to wear school colors to show support for our MCC family and our efforts to support the Genesee Region Special Olympics.   Donations will be collected in each department.  All checks should be made out to the Genesee Region Special Olympics.  Donation envelopes have been returned to your departments to be used again on March 1st.  Please bring donation envelopes to Jodee Biller in the Controller’s Office no later than 4:00 pm on Friday, March 1st.
