A Powerful Learning Opportunity: The "Friends" Exhibit

For six weeks this fall, MCC will be hosting an exhibit called "Friends", which chronicles the events leading up to, and the consequences of, a DWI accident in 2000 that killed four college students in Hamilton, NY.

Those who have seen the exhibit, myself included, can attest to the powerful impact it has on its viewers. This exhibit has the potential to serve as a dramatic catalyst for students to explore, both inside and outside the classroom, the societal problem of drinking and driving and the personal devastation that can result. Student response to the exhibit could be incorporated  into the curriculum of many MCC courses (English composition, criminal justice, health, sociology, psychology, etc.) through writing, oral presentations, class discussion, research projects, and other types of assignments.

If you would like to learn more about the exhibit, you can visit its website at: < "

The exhibit will be on display from October 15 through November 24 in the Gilman Lounge of MCC's Brighton Campus Center (Building 3, Room 114). The tour is self-guided and will be open to the MCC community and the general public from 9 am until 7 pm Monday through Friday. Group visits before and after these hours and on Saturdays will be available by appointment.  Details regarding a reservation system for group visits will be published in the Tribune as they become available.

This exhibit will be co-sponsored by the Peer Mentors, the MCC Foundation, the DCC Campus Center, the MCC Personal Health & Safety Committee, and the Department of Law and Criminal Justice.

Please be watching for future Tribune announcements regarding the "Friends" exhibit. In the meantime, if you have any questions or would like to discuss the exhibit, please contact me at  <"
