Senior Citizen Auditors

As you may or may not know, New York state education law allows persons age 60 or over to audit classes without tuition, examination, grading or credit, on a “seats available” basis (i.e., as long as such auditing does not deny course attendance to a student registering for credit).

In the past, we have been able to allow senior auditors to register for classes before classes started. However, because students seeking credit are registering later, the week prior to classes and the first week of classes are exceptionally busy with registering credit-seeking students. Additionally, registering senior auditors before credit-seeking students had finished registering too often resulted in overloaded classes.

As a result, the registration for senior citizens interested in auditing a course for the spring semester will be held on Friday, January 26 from 9:00 -11:00 a.m. in the Academic Advisement Centers.  Unfortunately senior auditors will miss the first week of instruction as well as handouts that were distributed.  Please welcome them into your classes and provide them with any materials they will need.  Thank you for your assistance with this important service we provide to the Monroe County community.
