Holodomor: Extermination by Hunger featuring Author and Historian Taras Hunczak, Ph.D.

In order to create awareness of the Holodomor and the unique way Soviet Dictator Joseph Stalin used food as a weapon against the Ukrainian people in 1932 and 1933, the Holocaust, Genocide, and Human Rights Project and the Ukrainian Federal Credit Union have partnered to present author and historian Taras Hunczak, Ph.D., professor emeritus of Ukrainian and Russian Studies, Rutgers University. Professor Hunczak will be the keynote speaker at MCC’s 5th annual Voices of Vigilance program entitled “Holodomor: Extermination by Hunger,” 7 p.m. Wednesday, March 16 in the R. Thomas Flynn Campus Center.

Through this presentation, MCC students are helping to reveal the story of the Holodomor, a story that has been hidden for nearly 80 years. We are grateful members of the Ukrainian community brought this topic to our attention last year. Our spring 2011 programming is focused on the Holodomor in hopes that people realize how it changed the Ukrainian people forever.

Tickets for the event are $7 for general public; free for students with MCC identification. Tickets are available at
http://www.monroecctickets.com or at the door.
