Presentation News from MCC Libraries

Summer has begun with gusto for MCC Libraries.  Librarians have already traveled to three states to share the collaborations and innovations the library has been working on throughout the past academic year. The following presentations and poster sessions highlight just a few of the initiatives MCC Libraries will continue to explore in order to support MCC students and faculty.

Director of Library Services Mark McBride, and Assistant Director Micquel Little, presented at the League of Innovation Learning Summit in Phoenix, Arizona. The title of their presentation, "The Ying and Yang of Evolutionary Change," focused on strengthening culture centered around student learning. Participants learned how to use leadership skills to influence evolutionary change in organizations through building team culture. (June 2014)

Micquel also traveled to Ohio University in Athens, Ohio to deliver a presentation on May 29. The Ohio Valley Group of Technical Services Librarians (OVGTSL) Conference provided Micquel and a colleague from St. John Fisher College the opportunity to share assessment initiatives related to academic libraries and their collections. The concept of libraries’ collection development practices enabling improved communications and assistance to students and faculty, while aligning library and institutional goals, sparked great discussion on all the ways libraries strive to support their institutions, faculty, staff, and most importantly, students. Assistant Director Alice Wilson, presented a poster at the SUNY Conference on Instruction. The poster was focused on how MCC Libraries, through the redesign of their classroom this summer, are developing and applying an assessment framework to all services they provide, also including projects, spaces, instruction, etc. The poster also showcased how the library plans to assess the new classroom and further develop their information literacy program around the classroom. Mary Timmons presented a poster session at the SUNY Librarians Conference in Albany, New York.  The presentation shares a case study of collaboration with Julie Damerell, transitional studies, on locating and incorporating open educational resources into Julie's TRS 100 course.  Mary and Julie worked together to introduce students to online grammar software in order to enhance an Integrated Reading and Writing class.
