On April 22, MCC's Chapter of American Association for Women in Community Colleges hosted over 150 boys and girls for Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day. The children participated in over 50 sessions at both the Brighton and Damon City campuses. Attendees included college employees’ and students’ sons and daughters, as well as, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, neighbors and young friends. Through the strong support received from all members of the college, our chapter continues to be excited about making a difference in young people’s lives.
Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day is a national program of the MS. Foundation for Women devoted to a young person’s ideas, spirit, and dreams. It is a day when young persons go to work instead of school. At MCC, our program provides an opportunity for adults to reach out to young people and provide a forum for them to ask questions, share their expectations and begin to develop their visions for future. Attendees were able to get a first hand glimpse of MCC and all that takes place in a community college, as well as to see, the possibilities that an education can offer. Participants were welcomed at both Brighton and Damon to a full day of events, including a breakfast, career exploration seminars and tours of the campus. Structured activities and hands-on sessions were tailored for ages 8-15 years. Employees from all levels and departments at the college volunteer to provide sessions and assist in this very important event.
