"College 101 for Parents" a Success!


The Admissions Office hosted “College 101 for Parents” on Thursday October 19, 2006.  Over 225 parents of high school students participated in this comprehensive college planning workshop. 

Coordinated by Christine Casalinuovo-Adams, presenters included representatives from SUNY Geneseo, SUNY Brockport, St John Fisher College, RIT, Roberts Wesleyan, and MCC who offered a panel discussion on high school transcripts and “How Colleges Choose Their Freshman Class.”  High school counselors from Brockport, Penfield, Rush Henrietta and Allendale Columbia presented a panel discussion on “How to Choose a College,” and Monroe #1 BOCES and RIT presented “Transition from High School to College” for students with disabilities.

MCC presenters included Donna Burke, “Home Schooled Students and the College Selection Process,” Tracy Archie, “How Colleges Choose Their Freshman Class,” Mark Schwartz from Financial Aid,  “Financial Aid and Scholarships,”  Nelson Cupello from Athletics, “College Athletic Recruitment,” Holly Wynn-Preische, Assistant Director of the Career Center, “Transferring From a Two Year to a Four Year College,”  Clayton Jones, “The Importance of Intermediate Algebra,” and Sally Barton Dingee, Academic Advisement Specialist,  “How To Choose a Major.”  We thank everyone who presented.

College 101 for Parents was developed to assist parents in the college planning process.  This program strives to give parents basic college planning information that will help them assist their child in making the right college choice.
