STEP Students Win 2nd Place in LEGO Robotics Competition


On November 19th, four students from MCC’s Science and Technology Program participated in the 6th annual Finger Lakes FIRST LEGO League qualifying tournament at Rochester STEM High School.  The students Louis, Edmond, Kyle and Nijah were accompanied by their mentors Heather, Ben, David and Ashley.

The FIRST LEGO League is a robotics program for 9 to 16 year olds, and is designed to get children excited about science and technology. MCC STEP team Un-Spoiled Apples worked together to build and program a LEGO robot that completed missions to earn points in the “Food Factor” challenge.This challenge looked to improve the quality of food by finding ways to prevent food contamination. In addition, the team completed and presented a creative research project on how to prevent apples from contamination of apple scabs.


MCC STEP team became Finger Lakes FIRST LEGO League STEM Qualifier 2011 Champions 2nd place winner. Un-Spoiled Apples will advance to the championship tournament held at the University of Rochester Goergen Athletic Center on Sunday, December 4, 2011.
