President's Wednesday Message

Our community. Your college.

I know, these are not grammatically correct sentences.  If I were grading them, I might write, “Our community does . . . is . . .??—Your college is . . .??”, in the margins.  But, let’s set grammar aside for a moment because this week, these words frame the 2010 President’s Report to the Community, and they do so for a very good reason.

MCC, as our name suggests, was chartered almost 50 years ago to serve “our community”—to move our students forward toward their goals, to create a highly skilled workforce for the Greater Rochester area, to enhance the academic, economic, cultural and social fabric of this region.  Yet, how we accomplish these feats (and many others) day in and day out remains a mystery to too many members of the community outside our walls.  Last fall, we decided the time was right to renew the tradition of a President’s Report, to re-introduce our community to their amazing college.

This week, copies of that report—in glossy mixed source paper and glowing virtual formats--will begin popping up throughout the region.  We tell MCC’s story through our students, alumni, faculty, and staff.  We highlight the college’s role in preparing the community’s workforce, creating a healthier and safer region, supporting enrichment and outreach, keeping quality higher education accessible, and—most importantly—helping students succeed.  And, when I write “the college,” I mean YOU.

This may be a report by the president, but it is about your innovation, accomplishments, and dedication.  You make our college, the community’s college.

I hope you will take some time to review the 2010 report and share your feedback with me.  You’ll find it online at https://www.mccpresidentsreport.com.
