Bausch & Lomb Lobby Dedicated

Two milestones in the long-standing relationship between Bausch & Lomb and Monroe Community College were reached in the R. Thomas Flynn Campus Center on Tuesday morning, April 27.

It was the first time a company hosted its annual shareholders meeting on campus and it provided the opportunity for the dedication of the Bausch & Lomb Lobby at the north entrance of the Flynn Center. The company is currently celebrating its 150th anniversary worldwide.

The dedication was the result of the company’s most recent philanthropic gift to Building on Success: The Campaign for Monroe Community College.  Over the past 17 years, Bausch & Lomb has partnered with the MCC Foundation to support students, faculty and facilities at the college, fulfilling its commitment to improve the quality of people’s lives in our community.

In addition to Bausch & Lomb representatives, MCC trustees, MCC Foundation directors and college administrators, several winners of Bausch & Lomb scholarships were present and participated in the dedication. During his remarks scholarship winner and MCC alumnus Christopher House ’03, commented to Bausch & Lomb, “The returns on the investments that you have made in us will be seen, heard and felt in our community, nation, and world for many years to come. We are already standing in a beautiful facility made possible, in part, by your generosity.”

Bausch & Lomb Chairman and CEO Ronald Zarrella reflected on how MCC has created opportunities and enhanced the quality of life for people in Rochester. “MCC is a model of educational excellence….we made these gifts as a way of saying thank you to MCC,” he said.

Jim Ward, Bausch & Lomb retiree and immediate past chair of the MCC Foundation, shared the official dedication with the audience during the unveiling of the plaque:

“Bausch & Lomb has distinguished itself as a generous philanthropic partner throughout the history of Monroe Community College. We are proud to recognize its leadership, counsel and financial support which have benefited the college and its foundation.”
