The Hospitality Department will offer a three (3) credit course this spring that explores the Food, Wine, & Culture of Tuscany! The course comprises a two-week culinary, cultural, and historical experience in the Tuscany and Umbria Region of Italy including Florence, Parma, Pienza, San Gimignano. The course will run from May 22 to June 6, 2008.

FOOD AND WINE

Cooking classes at Apicius International School of Hospitality of Florence-topics to include a Tuscan summer menu, Fresh Pasta Workshop, Olive Oil in Tuscan Cuisine, Menu at the Medici Time

Guided historical and cultural tours of the city of Florence Italy by the faculty at the Florence University of Arts Chocolate workshop with the European Champion Chocolate/Pastry Chef Andrea Bianchini (with tasting!!!!!!!!). Learn all the secrets of tempering

Lecture classes: "Wines of Tuscany", Italian Language and Culture, Renaissance Florence, The Medici Family, Pairing Food and Wine, Michelangelo and his time, Meal Planning and Meal Management in the Italian family, Aperitivo Italian Style

ITALIAN LANGUAGE CLASSES

HISTORICAL AND CULTURAL TOURS

· Town or Orvieto, visit to the Olive Oil Museum and local winery ·  Guided tour to San Gimignano, one of the most famous historical towns of Tuscany. San Gimignano is a typical village famous for its untouched medieval aspect, monuments, art treasures, and magnificent countryside. Visit the Cantina "Barberani winery in Cerreto di Baschi, producing very high quality DOC wines of the region.

·  Guided tour of the city of Parma including a visit to the Parmigiano Cheese Factory to watch the making of cheese ·  Guided tour to Pienza the home of Pecorino Romano cheese (Tuscany, province of Siena)

RENAISSANCE AND GOTHIC ART

Visits to the famous art galleries in Florence: Accedemia galleries, Medici Chapels, Palazzo Pitti, Galleria Palatina,

Uffizi Gallery: View the most important collection of art in Italy, housing works by Giotto, Cimabue, Botticelli, Michelangelo, Raffaello, Leonard, Tiziano and so many other great masters.

If you would like to join the group in Italy this May here is what you need to do!

First step, register for HSP 222 section 100 and section 105, CRN# 23647 and CRN# 23648. The estimated cost of the full program will be $5,050.00.

Second step should be to get a deposit of $2,000.00 to the student center this week so I can book your airfare. The cost of the travel portion of the course includes airfare, housing, and the itinerary above for only $5,050.00. The actual price is subject to changes based on the actual cost of airfare at time of confirmation.  

Step number 3, contact Mr. Lawrence for all the course information.

Fourth step, please stop by my office in 3-146 for the course information and a copy of the MCC assumption of risk contract which you must sign and return to me to participate. I request that you return this contract no later than March 14, 2008. 

Cost and Payment schedule: Students must have an initial deposit of $2,000.00 into their account by now. Your second payment of $1,600.00 is due by March 14, 2008.  The final payment in full is due by April 4, 2008. Late payments may jeopardize the cost of the program or cancellation of the airline tickets. Should you have any questions on this matter it is imperative that you contact me immediately.
