Active Threat Exercise Planned for June 20; College to Close

On Friday, June 20, 2014, Monroe Community College’s Brighton Campus will host a full-scale, active threat exercise, part of the College’s emergency preparedness effort. The afternoon exercise will involve MCC and 13 external public safety agencies, totaling about 250 participants (see list below).

Exercises such as this one are an important part of the College’s emergency preparedness. Practicing our response to a public safety crisis builds relationships with our municipal emergency response partners and helps to identify areas for improvement in response plans so that they can be addressed.

The exercise will be very realistic and may appear real to some. Given this and the extent of the exercise, we will close the College from noon to 11:00 pm on Friday, June 20, 2014. Only individuals participating in the exercise should be on the Brighton Campus after 12:15 pm on Friday, June 20. Please see the attached for guidance regarding employee time reporting.

I am very grateful to MCC’s Public Safety Department and the Monroe County Office of Emergency Preparedness for their leadership of this important training.
