The Importance of Public-Public Workforce Partnerships

LadderzUP is a public-public partnership between Monroe County and Monroe Community College's Economic and Workforce Development Center. This collaborative workforce development effort is designed to serve Monroe County residents by providing educational and training opportunities aligned with current and future job openings in high demand industries. Additionally, the LadderzUP partnership provides County employers access to employee training, and a pool of newly skilled workers seeking a career.

With an increasing emphasis on the needs of the adult learner, the alternative funding model of this workforce partnership allows for more adult learners to be trained for skills-based occupations and their associated Career Pathways. With a focus on short cycle training, LadderzUP has trained over 800 participants, across 55 companies, in a variety of programs, since its inception in September 2017.

The performance of the LadderzUP program strongly suggests the value of providing financial aid for robust non-credit workforce programming, to both attract and serve more learners seeking access to programming taught outside the traditional academic model, and that directly leads to employment or advancement within local industry. We are thankful to Monroe County's Imagine Monroe for their support in creating this important training fund for our community.
