Integrating Assessment Programs with Online Course Design - Web Conference

REMINDER -

MCC will host "Integrating Assessment Programs with Online Course Design" on Friday, February 16, 2007 from 1:00 - 2:30pm in the Board Lounge. This Web Conference is sponsored by ETS in conjunction with Academic Impressions.

Online instructors are finding that traditional forms of assessment may not adequately represent what their online students have learned and may also bring increased potential for cheating. Thus, instructors must find ways to build learning assessment into course activities instead of relying on tests. But aligning course activities and outcomes with assessment is a difficult task. How can an instructor know if students have met course objectives or have achieved content area competencies if tests and quizzes are not the main means of assessment? What other forms of assessment might be considered?

Join us to explore how to link course design and assessment. The goal of this seminar is the development of creative assessment practices, such as the use of case studies, authentic assessments based in real-life application of concepts, and collaborative activities that move away from tests and quizzes and toward assessing learning. The design and use of rubrics as tools for assessment will also be discussed.
