Why Can't I Enter Attendance??

I received quite a few calls and e-mails yesterday concerning attendance.  The vast majority of the calls were asking why the attendance screens were unavailable.  I so appreciate people who open their e-mail, see a task to be completed and immediately begin working on it.  These are the kind of people who completed their term papers well before the deadline and actually had time for others to proof their work or edit it a few times before they actually handed it in.  Or people who scored very high on math tests because they actually did the practice problems as they were assigned, and not simply do them all the night before the test.  I admire them.

However, the attendance deadline can’t be rushed.  We want to know a student’s attendance in relation to the census date of the course. Did the student attend on or after the census date?  (Census for full-term courses is September 27th.)  So, it pains me greatly to have to tell you to NOT enter your attendance until at least 9/27.  And if you want to be a “Super-Over-Achiever,” you should probably wait until the class meeting after the 9/27 census before entering data just to be sure that students who missed the census class are truly gone forever.  Some might simply have missed that one magically dated class, known as census.

Hope this helps you understand what we are looking for in terms of attendance.  I am starting a nice little list of the names of the over-achievers who diligently went into Banner to enter attendance immediately.  I like to secretly think people jump to attention when I give an order.  It is good for my ego.

So, relax.  You still have another week before you can enter attendance for a full semester course.  And remember that it is much better to be on my “over-achiever” list than to be on what we affectionately call in R&R my “deadbeat” list that identifies everyone who forgot to do their attendance.  Thankfully, that second list is extremely short.

If you need any assistance, please call or write.  We are here to help you.
