Visiting Writer Mary Ruefle to Present for Creative Arts Committee’s 2013-14 Creative Reading Series


On Thursday, October 24, from 7-8:30 PM, critically-acclaimed poet Mary Ruefle will read her poems in the MCC Forum. The event, which is free and open to the public, is part of the Creative Arts Committee’s annual Creative Reading Series. Ruefle will also be leading an informal workshop on Friday, October 25, 2013, from 12-12:50 in 8-200. This event is open to MCC faculty, students, and staff.

Mary Ruefle has published ten books of poetry, most recently Trances of the Blast (WAVE Books 2013) and Selected Poems (WAVE Books, 2012). Her collection of poetic essays, Madness, Rack, and Honey (also published by WAVE Books in 2012) was a finalist for 2012 National Book Award. In addition to her accomplishments in verse and prose, she is a well-known erasure artist, whose treatments of nineteenth-century texts have been exhibited in museums and galleries, and published in A Little White Shadow (WAVE 2006). She is the recipient of numerous honors, including an Award in Literature from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, a Guggenheim Fellowship, a National Endowment for Arts fellowship, and a Whiting Award. She lives in Bennington, Vermont, and teaches in the MFA program at Vermont College.
