Holocaust, Genocide, and Human Rights Project: March Film and Book Discussions


The Holocaust, Genocide, and Human Rights Project is MCC’s unique organization for telling the stories of the Holocaust and other genocides while transforming individuals to become advocates for human rights.

Please consider joining HGHRP members, fellow students and faculty/staff for the following film and book discussions this month. All events are free and open to the public.

Plot: Set in post-World War II Germany. Nearly a decade after his affair with an older woman came to a mysterious end, law student Michael Berg re-encounters his former lover as she defends herself in a war-crime trial. Kate Winslet won an Academy Award for this performance.

Plot: As a girl in Cambodia, Somaly Mam was sold into sexual slavery when she was 12 years old. She was trapped in the dangerous and deparate world, she suffered and survived the brutality and horrors of human trafficking – rape, torture and deprivation until she managed to escape. Now she rescues others. This is her true story.

Somaly Mam will be speaking at MCC’s Brighton and Damon City campuses on April 7. The book is available in the MCC Bookstore.

Plot: This drama is about an American stolen artifacts dealer in Vietnam who tries to save a young girl from child traffickers. Shot on location in Cambodia, it includes many scenes in actual brothels in the notorious red light district of Phnom Penh.
