Palmer Assists in Superstorm Sandy Recovery

Nursing Professor Laurie Palmer just returned from a 4 day stay in Suffolk County on Long Island where she joined 20 RN’s from around the state who staffed a Special Needs Medical Shelter. This activity was part of the Monroe County Medical Reserve Corps, which is a group of volunteers that serve and support the community during public health emergencies and at other times of community need. These dedicated professionals provided care to 50 patients who normally would have been receiving home health care and assistance but their caregivers were unable to provide the needed care due to the storm. Please join me in thanking Laurie for her courageous service.
