Diversity Quilt Presented to the Public Safety and Training Facility

The Diversity Council is pleased to share with the college community that on Feb. 11, in the Public Safety and Training Facility (PSTF) lobby, the  Diversity Quilt Committee unveiled the PSTF Diversity Quilt. The quilt and the frame are an amazing and priceless piece of art that will be shared with the community for many years to come. If you are driving on Scottsville Road or attending a meeting at the PSTF, please stop by the lobby and see this beautiful quilt. The quilt measures 6’ by 8’, and contains around 2,700 pieces of fabric, took countless hours of cutting and sewing, and showcases many photographs representing the work and commitment the PSTF provides to Monroe and surrounding counties.

We would also like to thank the members of the Diversity Quilt Committee for their commitment to bring a different and very representative quilt to each of MCC’s campuses. The members of the committee are Rita Straubhaar, Debbie Alimentato, Sandy Chamberlain, Margaret Kaminsky, Sylvia Lavin and Jean Taillie. Additional support for this project was provided by Mary O’Reilly and Linda Ziegler.

The group first met in October 2012 to plan the design, and chose a pattern called “Storm at Sea” because it worked well with the concept they envisioned: to represent the interconnection of all of the programs housed in the PSTF.  After the tragic events of December 24, 2012, the group decided to incorporate the West Webster Fire Department memorial emblem in honor of firefighters Michael Chiapperini and Tomasz Kaczowka, who died in the line of duty.

Thank you to all and our heartfelt gratitude for each of the quilts you have provided to the college community.
