PAC Center in the News

Yesterday’s Democrat and Chronicle includes a story on our PAC Center that contains some confusing and contradictory information. The headline says that the facility “faces overruns”; the sub-headline says that the project is “on budget.” So which is it?

The PAC Center is on budget and on schedule.

The budget approved by Monroe County and the State University of New York is $12.9 million. We anticipate that the final project cost will be between $11.2 and $11.4 million.

Early in the project planning, an anticipated completion date was set for this summer. That date was modified early on and the College has long been planning for an early Fall 2008 opening.  (In fact, please mark Oct. 14, 1:30 p.m. on your calendar for the dedication of the PAC Center.)

We are at an exciting point in the construction process: the artificial turf field is being laid, the lobby, workout and athletic training rooms are taking shape, and landscaping will begin shortly. Soon, our students will be able to use one of the finest community college athletic facilities in the country.

If you have any questions about the PAC Center, please don’t hesitate to contact me or Director of Planning Valarie Avalone.
