King Interviewed About the Recent Warm Weather's Impact on Fruit Trees

Bob King, director of MCC Agricultural & Life Sciences Institute, was interviewed along with Joe Herberle of Heberle Fruit Farm on Friday, March 11 by Mark Mclean from 13WHAM ABC regarding the recent warm weather’s impact on local fruit trees.

"For the last four weeks of winter, we really don't like seeing temperatures above the 40s," King said. "We like to see more moderate cold temperatures. It's necessary to control certain types of disease."

King said early-season weed pressure will also increase with above-normal warmth.

The weather pattern will stay very warm for the next 10-14 days in WNY, possibly reaching the 60s again by the end of next week.

If these temperatures are realized, King said a rapid return to cold temperatures could be a real problem.
