Dental Societies Give $30,000 toward Clinic Renovation

Representatives of the Seventh District Dental Society and the Monroe County Dental Society presented a combined gift of $30,000 to the Monroe Community College Foundation earlier this spring to help fund the MCC Dental Hygiene Clinic’s upcoming $250,000 renovation. The renovation will enhance learning, teaching and patient care in the clinic.

“The level of commitment and passion area professionals have in Monroe Community College’s dental programs is only matched by the enthusiasm of MCC’s dental program faculty,” said MCC Foundation Executive Director Diane L. Shoger. “We thank the Seventh District and Monroe County dental societies for supporting the vision of a renovated dental clinic for our students, faculty and community.”

Under the leadership of Dental Hygiene Program Director and Associate Professor of Dental Studies David B. Lawrence, DDS, MCC’s clinic is an integral part of dental education at MCC. Students work under the supervision of licensed hygienists and dentists in the clinic while responding to more than 6,000 patient visits each year. The clinical experience offered at MCC prepares students for national and state certification exams.

Design for the renovation will begin this spring, leading to a dynamic new clinic infrastructure with modern workstations and more efficient plumbing and electrical components. Workstations will offer more privacy for client treatment and consultations.

Construction of the new clinic is slated to begin in June 2011.

The Seventh District Dental Society is a component of the New York State Dental Association, a constituent of the American Dental Association. The society represents over 800 member dentists in the New York counties of Cayuga, Livingston, Monroe, Ontario, Seneca, Steuben, Wayne and Yates.
