Sibley Building Safety Concerns

As you likely know from media reports and/or colleagues, an unidentified man in recent days has inappropriately approached women in the Sibley Building. The advances have included inappropriate comments and touching, and occurred in secluded areas such as stairwells and restrooms. These incidents have all occurred on the second floor of the Sibley Building between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. The man is described as a black male, between 5’2” and 5’6”, with a muscular build wearing a black puffy coat and black boots.

The Rochester Police Department, MCC Public Safety and Genesee Management are actively investigating this matter and have increased patrols in this area. If you see any suspicious persons or behavior, please report it immediately by calling 262-1414 or 911.

I want to assure you of the safety of the Damon City Campus. All of these incidents have occurred on the floors below DCC; there are no reports of incidents on our campus. As you may know, members of the college community must show appropriate identification upon entering DCC and all others must sign in and indicate their destination. We are advising the college community to always be aware of your surroundings, walk in pairs or groups, avoid secluded areas and request an escort from Genesee Management on the Damon Campus or Public Safety on the Brighton Campus if you feel unsafe.

If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact Public Safety or the office of DCC Executive Dean Dr. Emeterio “Pete” Otero. We will keep you informed.

Thank you.
