Quotes That Inspire

On the First Friday of August, it's once again my turn to share an inspiring quote. In fact, I offer you two quotes to ponder.

"Managers do things right. Leaders do the right thing." ― American scholar and author Warren G. Bennis

For many years, I had the preceding quote taped on my computer screen at work. As Warren Bennis suggests, leadership is about doing the right thing that, at times, may place us in unpopular positions. We need look no further than long-serving public health officials who are doing the right thing to protect citizens nationwide.

Following through on what is right for MCC--as we face unprecedented circumstances--has placed me in that position once again. This quote from my longtime role model, Eleanor Roosevelt, offer me guidance, support, and strength:

"You cannot take anything personally. You cannot bear grudges. You must finish the day's work when the day's work is done. ... every woman in public life needs to develop skin as tough as a rhinoceros hide." -- Former First Lady of the United States Eleanor Roosevelt

Now you know why my favorite Halloween costume is a rhinoceros.
