<ul>
<li>Be a current student enrolled in a course at Monroe Community College</li>
<li>Have completed the course(s) at MCC with a B or better in a previous semester</li>
<li>Possess excellent interpersonal communication skills</li>
<li>Have a working knowledge of campus resources for academic success</li>
<li>Be tech savvy</li>
<li>Receive a recommendation from a faculty member in the discipline the peer tutor wishes to support&mdash;<strong>this recommendation is verified by the</strong>&nbsp;<strong>&ldquo;Peer Tutor</strong>&nbsp;<strong>Faculty Reference Form.&rdquo;</strong></li>
<li>Have the flexibility to offer 10-15 hours each week</li>
</ul>

<p>Peer Tutor Primary Activities</p>

<ul>
<li>Foster the development of independent, intentional&nbsp;learners;&nbsp;</li>
<li>Help students understand and use<strong>&nbsp;</strong>effective learning strategies&nbsp;</li>
<li>Provide tutor assistance in subject areas in one-on-one and group settings&nbsp;</li>
<li>Develop and nurture rapport with students, peers, and faculty&nbsp;</li>
<li>Attend training activities to comply with certification requirements before and/or during semesters&nbsp;</li>
<li>Adhere to tutoring center protocol and tutoring expectations as outlined in the Tutor Handbook&nbsp;</li>
<li>Promote critical thinking and problem solving&nbsp;&nbsp;</li>
<li>Help to identify and fill learning gaps with discipline specific content&nbsp;</li>
<li>Visit classrooms, as needed,&nbsp;to introduce students to&nbsp;tutoring&nbsp;services&nbsp;</li>
<li>Assisting with other learning assistance projects as assigned&nbsp;by Lead Tutors, the Director of Learning Support Systems, or the Coordinator for Course-Based Learning Assistance</li>

<li>Receive a recommendation from the faculty member the SI Leader will support&nbsp;(<strong>This recommendation is verified by the</strong>&nbsp;<strong>SI Leader</strong>&nbsp;<strong>Faculty Reference Form</strong>)</li>

<p>SI Leader Primary Activities</p>

<li>Attend all class meetings for the assigned SI course and read assigned materials (SI for Nursing does not require attendance in class meetings)</li>
<li>Conduct 1-2 SI session(s) per week throughout the semester</li>
<li>Promote SI sessions during class and make relevant announcements on academic success programs</li>
<li>Develop handouts for SI sessions</li>
<li>Track attendance at all SI sessions</li>
<li>Meet with the course professor as needed to understand course requirements and concepts</li>
<li>Meet with SI Coordinator for scheduled meetings throughout the semester</li>
<li>Ensure that surveys, assessments, and reports are distributed, collected, and/or completed</li>
<li>Role model effective behavior of successful students</li>
<li>Maintain a professional attitude at all times</li>
</ul>

Learning Support Systems is now hiring Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leaders for summer and fall 2022--and peer tutors for fall 2022!
