Be in the Know When it Comes to Emergency Messages

Since an emergency can occur at any time on campus or within the communities in which you live, work, and travel, the Department of Public Safety would like to make you aware of two important emergency communications programs that will provide you with information pertaining to emergency situations both on MCC campuses and within the surrounding communities.

MCC Alert is a College-based emergency messaging system in which you can receive timely and accurate information via e-mail, text, and voice message formats. In the event of an emergency on any of MCC’s campuses, including severe weather warnings or campus roadway/traffic matters, you will receive important information that could affect your safety and security via MCC Alert once you have subscribed. All faculty, staff, and students’ MCC e-mail addresses are automatically entered into MCC Alert once created. However, to benefit from text and voice message notifications you must visit the MCC Alert webpage (https://www.monroecc.edu/depts/pstd/mcc-alert-system/) to enroll. You can enter up to three telephone numbers and two additional e-mail addresses to receive emergency notifications via text and voice message formats if you wish.

Code Red is an emergency notification system offered by Monroe County that allows for emergency messaging to traditional land line telephones and cellular telephones. Whereas MCC Alert allows you to receive emergency messages pertaining specifically to its campuses, Code Red allows you to receive emergency messages pertaining to the communities in which you work, reside, or travel through, as long as they are within Monroe County. For additional information and/or to sign up for Code Red please visit www.monroecounty.gov, select the 911 Cell Phone Registration link, and complete the online application form. Please recognize that MCC Alert messages will not be broadcast via Code Red since Code Red is a County-wide emergency messaging system and MCC Alert is an emergency messaging system designed specifically for MCC.

As always, feel free to contact me at extension 2926 or via e-mail at cdisalvo@monroecc.edu with any questions related to emergency communications during critical incidents.
