Quotes That Inspire

As we pause to reflect on the 19th anniversary of the September 11 Terrorist Attacks, I hope you will find this poem, submitted by Blaine Grindle from our Facilities Department, particularly inspiring.

Do It Now
by Stephen Grellet, an 18th century French-American Quaker missionary

I expect to pass through this world but once.
Any good thing, therefore,
that I can do or any kindness I can show to any
human being let me do it now.
Let me not defer nor neglect it,
for I shall not pass this way again.

Thank you, Blaine, for this well-timed and much appreciated reminder.

Nineteen years ago, we, including our students, were overwhelmed by the enormity of the horrors of 9/11. The following year, MCC Student Government Association leaders and community partners demonstrated great kindness and determination by designing, building and dedicating the September 11, 2001 Remembrance Walk on the Brighton Campus.

As our students know, and as Stephen Grellet's poem suggests, we can choose to have a positive impact now, no matter how overwhelming life's circumstances may feel. At MCC, opportunities to do "good things" and "show kindness" present themselves on a daily basis.

Is there a quote that inspires you? If so, submit it along with a brief narrative about why the quote resonates for you to PresOffice@monroecc.edu. "Quotes That Inspire" are shared with colleagues on Fridays in the MCC Daily Tribune.
