Cupello joins Frontier Walk of Fame

Longtime MCC men's soccer coach Nelson Cupello was inducted into the Frontier Field Walk of Fame at Tuesday night's Press-Radio Club dinner.

Cupello, who is being inducted in the amateur coaches category, will be honored at a ceremony on Sunday, Aug. 21 at Frontier Field.

He joins a handful of other individuals in the Walk of Fame with ties to MCC.  Those include H. David Chamberlain (Class of 1997), Pete Pavia (1997), Al Butler (1997), Jeff Sluman (1998), Geordie Robertson (1998), Murph Shapiro (2000), Tim Parrinello (2007), and Tracey Britton (2008).

Cupello has led the Tribune men's soccer program for the past 21 seasons, accumulating an overall record of 272-96-25.  His teams have won seven Region III championships, and he has been named regional coach of the year eight times and district coach of the year twice.

A former MCC All-American who is still the Tribunes' all-time leader in goals in a game, season, and career, Cupello also helped lead SUNY Brockport to a national title as a player in 1974.  He was later a first-round draft choice of the Rochester Lancers of the North American Soccer League, and he also played professionally with the Rochester Pride.
