Celtic Society to Screen Gangs of New York

On Wednesday, 8 May at 6 p.m., please join Celtic Society for the final film in the 2012-2013 Celtic Film Series, a free screening of Martin Scorsese’s GANGS OF NEW YORK.

Based loosely upon historical events, GANGS OF NEW YORK graphically depicts life in mid-nineteenth century New York City and the violent tensions among various groups, including Protestant nativists, Irish Catholic immigrants, and African-Americans. The film stars Leonardo DiCaprio as Amsterdam Vallon, son of Irish immigrant gang leader "Priest" Vallon (played by Liam Neeson), and three-time Oscar winner, Daniel Day-Lewis as nativist gang leader, Bill “the Butcher” Cutting.

Celtic Society’s purpose is to raise awareness of the Celtic Nations (Brittany, Cornwall, Galicia, Ireland, Isle of Man, Scotland, Wales) and diaspora. It aims to share and celebrate Celtic culture with the college community. Celtic Society welcomes all students, faculty, and employees, regardless of their ethnic backgrounds.
