Presidential Inauguration 2013:  Watch and Talk

Greetings MCC Family,

Tuesday, January 15th marked the 84th anniversary of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s birth.  This coming Monday, January 21st, President Barack Obama will share his Inauguration Day with the Southern Baptist preacher who launched a moral crusade sixty years to wrest America from the brutal grasps of Jim Crow laws.  You are cordially invited to join us as we will honor MLK’s life and memory by watching the live broadcast of the historic second inauguration of a man who is living in his legacy.

The Presidential Inauguration 2013: Watch and Talk is brought to you through a collaboration of MCC’s Black Student Union at Damon City Campus (BSU@DCC) and The Democracy Commitment (TDC) in partnership with the Frederick Douglass Resource Center and will be held at 11:30 a.m. at the center - 36 King Street, near the site for the new Damon City Campus.

Preceding the broadcast, MCC professor Verdis Robinson will give a talk entitled, “The Audacity of Dreams: Living the Legacy of Frederick Douglass and Martin Luther King.” Immediately following the ceremony, please stay for a commentary and open discussion led by the student leadership of BSU@DCC.  This event is free and open to the community.  Join us at the Frederick Douglass Resource Center for this memorable occasion!
