Serving Displaced Workers:   Lessons Learned and Recommendations to Other Colleges

When Pillowtex Corporation closed operations in North Carolina in July 2003, over 4,000 workers were layed off, causing significant loss of both personal income and local tax revenues. Rowan-Cabarrus Community College stepped in to provide education and training to the displaced workers. Throughout the process and looking back five years later, RCCC learned many lessons to share with other community colleges that find themselves in the situation of serving displaced workers.
