President's Wednesday Message

Happy New Year! Before this year gets its fast and faster kick-off later this month, I thought I'd use the Wednesday Messages to update you on various fall term activities and events. Update #1 follows:

Middle States Periodic Review

The College’s accreditation was reaffirmed at the November meeting of Middle States Commission on Higher Education. A Progress Report is due November 1, 2012, documenting (1) that institutional assessment results are shared with relevant constituencies including the governing board (Standard 7); and (2) further evidence of the use of general education and distance education assessment results to improve institutional effectiveness and student learning (Standards 12 and 14). The next evaluation visit is scheduled for 2015-2016. Many, many thanks to all who served on the Periodic Review Report committee and to all who responded to their information requests during that process. The team was co-chaired by Valarie Avalone and Mike McDonough and included Terry Keys, Michael Heel, Adrian Smalls, Darrell Jachim-Moore, Holly Wynn-Preische, Annette Leopard, and Sherrill Ison. MCC's strong performance on the PRR is a reflection of the quality of our College and the efforts of this great team.

Downtown Campus

I doubt there's a single person on campus who is unaware that the Board made a recommendation for MCC's new downtown campus to be located at properties currently owned by Kodak--but one never knows. Kodak has been very gracious in providing tours for the college community of these buildings, and the tours will continue into this year. Please contact Cynthia Cooper to request a spot. Also, late last term, both the Damon City Campus student leadership and the Faculty Senate came out in support of the Board's recommendation, and the response I've received from the larger community has been overwhelmingly positive as well. My guess is that recent news speculation regarding Kodak's future may have left you with some questions. Please know that we are in ongoing discussions with the necessary parties so that we can be prepared no matter the outcome. Also know that both the County and Kodak remain strongly positive about this opportunity and are looking forward to--as one community member coined yesterday--MCC at High Falls.

More next week. Any specific updates you're looking out for? Let me know on the blog.
