Founding Faculty Member, L. Louise Rozwell, Passes

L. Louise Rozwell, a founding MCC faculty member, passed away Friday, April 12, at the age of 94.

In the course of her 44-year MCC career, Dr. Rozwell taught Spanish, French, Russian and English for Speakers of Other Languages. She was active in Faculty Senate and a variety of professional associations, including American Council for Teachers of Foreign Languages, American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese, and Polish American Historical Association. She chaired the Foreign Languages/ESOL Department for about a decade.

When Dr. Rozwell retired from MCC in 2006, the Monroe County Legislature honored her and the Democrat and Chronicle profiled her as being the last MCC original faculty member to retire. The D&C profile is attached.

Dr. Rozwell traveled extensively and was active in the International Sister Cities of Rochester program. In 1997-98, as a member of the Rochester-Krakow Committee, she was invited to accompany Rochester Mayor Bill Johnson to Poland and act as his interpreter.

Dr. Rozwell is predeceased by her son, Mark, and survived by her daughter, Carol; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; and dear friends.

Calling hours are Tuesday, April 16, 3:00-7:00 pm at Schauman-Sulewski Funeral Home, 2309 Culver Rd. Her funeral mass will be celebrated Wednesday, April 17, 10:00 am at St. Stanislaus Church. Entombment will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.
