2nd Annual CrossFit Community Fundraiser to Benefit Future First Responders

Rochester area CrossFit locations will hold their second annual fundraiser on December 20 to raise funds for the Lt. Michael J. Chiapperini and Tomasz M. Kaczowka Memorial Scholarship at Monroe Community College. Two $1,000 scholarships are awarded to MCC students each year.

On the morning of December 24, 2012, Mike Chiapperini, 43, a Webster Police Department lieutenant and the department's public information officer, and Tomasz Kaczowka, 19, a Monroe County 911 dispatcher, were volunteering for the West Webster Fire Department. They responded to a structure fire on Lake Road in Webster, N.Y.. As they arrived, they were fired upon by a gunman and died on the scene.

Led by CrossFit Park Avenue, participants in the fundraiser will donate $20 or more before completing a pre-determined 24-minute CrossFit workout routine. Membership is not required to participate.
