Save the Date - SiCKO and Donna Smith at DCC!

Please mark your calendars for a very special Sociology Film Series at DCC event that will take place during the first week of fall 2008 classes.  Donna Smith, whose story, including her trip to Cuba, was featured in Michael Moore’s (2007) documentary SiCKO, has offered to share her experiences with the MCC community.  SiCKO is “a scathing indictment of American’ failing health system….(with) powerful personal testimonies…shocking statistics” (from DVD jacket).  According to Peter Travers from Rolling Stone “You’ll laugh till it hurts”.

We have little to no control over the date, so I’m sending out this early notice and will follow up with additional details, a flier, etc. later this summer.  Here’s what we have thus far:

WHEN:                       Thursday, September 4, 2008

TIME:                         3:00pm-5:00pm (view portions of the film with discussion to follow)

PLACE:                      Room #4151 Damon City Campus

DISCUSSANTS:        Donna Smith (featured in SiCKO); Bethany Gizzi, Sociology and Christine Plumeri, Sociology

As always, this event is free and open to the public.  Light refreshments will be served.  Faculty and staff, please come and encourage student attendance at this academic and important event. This event is sponsored by the AHPS Department, the Office of the Dean of Liberal Arts, Michael McDonough, and the Interfaith Health Care Coalition.
