Angelique Stevens to Present at Water for South Sudan Ten-Year Anniversary Celebration

Water for South Sudan, founded by MCC alumnus and Lost Boy, Salva Dut, will host its Ten-Year Anniversary Celebration.

Monday, June 8th 7-8 PM
Dryden Theater at George Eastman House
900 East Avenue, Rochester, NY

Angelique Stevens, MCC Associate Professor and Water for South Sudan Board member, will present her findings from a two-month trip and semester-long project to South Sudan to evaluate 80 of the organization’s 250 wells. She will also have a conversation with Ben Dobbin, a reporter who travelled to Sudan in 2008 with Angelique to watch the drilling of a borehole in the village of Abilnyang and again in January 2015 for two weeks to revisit Abilnyang. They will talk about what it was like to go back seven years later and to experience South Sudan again after years of change, civil war, and hope.

Salva Dut, will also give an update on the 2015 drilling season, and the organization will honor Linda Sue Park, author of New York Times bestselling book about Salva Dut, A Long Walk to Water and other extraordinary friends.

The event is open to the public and will be followed by a reception at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church (across the street at 25 Westminster Road) with Salva from 8:00 – 9:00 PM.
