Dr. Jackson Katz Coming in April!

Violence prevention educator, Jackson Katz will return to MCC on April 2, 2014. Dr. Jackson Katz will be giving two talks on "Manhood and American Culture" on each campus, respectively. His visit is part of the College's Enough is Enough Week programming, which is a national violence education prevention initiative.

Dr. Jackson Katz, is an educator, author and internationally acclaimed lecturer who is a pioneer in the fields of gender violence prevention education and critical media literacy. He is cofounder of Mentors in Violence Prevention (MVP), one of the original "bystander" programs and the most widely utilized sexual and domestic violence prevention initiative in college and professional athletics in North America. He is the creator of the film Tough Guise and author of The Macho Paradox and Leading Men: Presidential Campaigns and the Politics of Manhood. He lectures widely in the United States and around the world on violence, media, and masculinities.

MCC has institutionalized Dr. Katz's Mentors in Violence Prevention Program (MVP-MCC) over the past four (4) years. MVP-MCC includes curriculum infusion (e.g., in SPC, SOC, CRJ, ENG, PSY, etc.), co- and extra-curricular programming, a full year's scholarship sponsored by the MCC Foundation and the Train the Trainers Program.

MCC is one of just three schools and the only community college in the world to have MVP's Train the Trainers, a three-day intensive bystander intervention program. Over the past four years, we have credentialed over 130 mentors, with 25 new mentors joining us for our 6th Training to be held on March 20-21-22, 2014.
