MCC Toastmasters Host Tall Tales Contest, Prepare for Area Competition

The MCC Toastmasters Club hosted its first-ever Tall Tales Contest on March 23. Tall tales and international speech contests are an annual tradition for Toastmasters clubs worldwide, which give people an opportunity to be creative (speeches must be substantially original) and compete in a friendly atmosphere.

Representing the MCC Toastmasters Club at the upcoming Area 4 contests on April 17 (to be held at the Damon City Campus) are Diane Navarro DeHond, Instructional Technologies, who will compete in the Area 4 International Speech Contest; and Rosanna Condello, Public Affairs, who took first place at the recent club contest and will now prepare to compete at the area level. Karen Frantz, Student Support Services, won the second place trophy for her tall tale and will serve as an alternate for the contest. Judy Hill, Chemistry and Geosciences, took home the third place award.

Bob Lasch, Applied Technologies; Samson Olaode, STAGE; and Nancy Woodhams, Facilities, also gave original, entertaining speeches during the contest.

Don't miss your chance to experience an MCC Toastmasters Club meeting! The next two meetings will be held on Tuesday, April 13 at 4:30 p.m. in Room 12-105 on the Brighton Campus; and on April 27 at 4:30 p.m. in room 5-140 on the Damon City Campus. Guests are always welcome to observe. Please call Samson Olaode, vice president membership, at x1693 for more information.
