Educational Technology Services invites MCC faculty, staff and administration to the following Brown Bag Lunch Sessions in September.
Sessions take place during COLLEGE HOUR (12-1pm) in ROOM 11-109 unless otherwise noted. These sessions discuss a variety of technology topics. No registration is required – just show up!
SMART CLASSROOMS: HOW TO USE CLASSROOM TECHNOLOGY
MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 13
As technological applications for instruction increase, so does the need for learning environments to include more advanced technology equipment. This session is designed to enable instructors to gain confidence in the operation of equipment that is installed in MCC's classrooms and lecture halls. Learn how to:
· Operate the controls that run the equipment in the smart classrooms
· Access the M drive or use Zip disks or CDs in class
· Switch between the PC and the VCR
· Plug in your laptop to the system so it projects
· Control the audio levels in the room
· Use a closed captioned video in your class
· Plug in and use your own camcorder or other device.

SMART CONSOLE SETUP AND USAGE
MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 20
Many of the classrooms at MCC have been converted to Smart Classrooms, however, some have not, and a Smart Console (consisting of a computer, data projector, VHS/DVD player, and speakers) has been placed in select rooms. This placement of Smart Consoles may change from semester to semester based on surveyed needs of the technology. If you know you will have a Smart Console in your classroom for the semester and want to learn how to operate it, attend this Brown Bag session. ADDRESS BOOKS AND CLASS LISTS FOR SLN

SLN’s Tammie Test Student… So what am I supposed to do with it? At the beginning of every semester, the password request gateway opens for students and you start to receive emails from SLN. The “click this button to add to your personal address book” is GONE! Oh my, so now what do I (ahmmm…you) do? Check out this Brown Bag Lunch Session. Learn how to use the public or student address book to accomplish the same thing. Do you like to read? Watch videos or listen to books on tape? Then you’ll be interested in the Library’s new online subscription to Books In Print! Besides determining which books or videos are currently in print, Books In Print (BIP) gives you and your students access to reviews, author biographies, and full publisher information. You can even find out which books are forthcoming! If you want a convenient and fun way to keep current with the publishing world, don’t miss this Brown Bag. CLASSROOM PERFORMANCE SYSTEM
MONDAY, SEPTEMBER 27
The Classroom Performance System (CPS) is a software/hardware system that allows you to easily get instant feedback from your students, using remote control devices and a portable receiver. The basic process works like this: Students are shown a question and they respond by pressing one of eight buttons on their remotes. Responses are tallied by computer and feedback is instantly available in the form of histograms and detailed reports. With CPS you can create a lecture with intermittent questions that can be multiple choice, true/false and subjective. You can even create questions on-the-fly as well as conduct group activities under the challenge mode. (The challenge mode is a jeopardy type of game.) The system can also be used in conjunction with paper tests provided you utilize multiple choice or true/false questions. It can also eliminate the need for Scantrons.
