Eat Well/Live Well Challenge is coming back

Folks have been asking me when the EW/LW Challenge would be coming back. My guess is people want to put some miles in the PAC Center Walking Track. We will begin the challenge on Sunday March 1 and it will run for 8 weeks. The primary goal of this program is to increase movement and fruit and vegetable consumption for the college community. Participants try to reach the goal of 10,000 steps and 5 cups of fruits and vegetables daily and record your results weekly. All can participate, last year we had 497 participants and we hope to reach 550 (our limit for free pedometers)this spring.

There will be several changes this year.

1.      Family members may join your team, although they will have to purchase their own pedometer.
2.      Teams can have 10 or more participants, the team captain has to be aware they will be responsible to make sure each team member logs in weekly and records their data. The weekly average per team is based on who inputs their data.
3.      If you lose your pedometer, you will have to pay 5.00 dollars for a replacement.
4.      Each participant is eligible for the weekly incentive as long as they have inputted their data. We will have gifts from the bookstore, exercise videos, fitness books, Aramark gift card and more.
5.      The team with the highest step average and highest fruit/vegetable consumption over the 8 weeks will receive  a prize at the end.

We will have 3 sessions for questions and answers over the next week. The first session will be this Friday Feb. 6th at noon in the Community Room at DCC. On the Brighton Campus, we are holding our meetings on Tuesday, Feb. 10th in Monroe A at 4:00 and Wednesday, February 11th at 12:15 in room 5-100. We will answer questions, discuss pedometers, and talk about the new and improved website.

Start Forming your teams, pick a Captain and get ready to join the thousands of Monroe County people who will be participating in the spring challenge. If you have any questions, please send an email to <"mailto:crand@monroecc.edu">
