Winston, Assistant to the President for Workforce Development, to Retire

It is with mixed feelings that I share with you James W. Winston’s decision to retire as assistant to the president for workforce development.

For more than four years, James has overseen the workforce and economic development activities of MCC. He has worked to ensure that the college provided local and regional businesses with the types of education/training programs their workforces required to stay competitive.

A systems architect, educator and trained facilitator, James has devoted his life to improving both the performance of emerging workers (youths) and adults and the overall effectiveness of organizations and partnerships.

Prior to coming to MCC, James was manager of Workforce Development for Monroe County. There he coordinated the Monroe County Manufacturing Partnership, an economic development consortium of city/county government, public schools, colleges and business leaders.

He also managed various training programs in the private sector, including Xerox and Delphi (formerly Rochester Products). He directed an alternative school for young adults, supervised programs at a detention center and was president of a local not-for-profit agency. He also held human resource management positions at General Motors and Xerox.

James plans to retire at the end of February. Please join colleagues as we wish James a happy and healthy retirement on Tuesday, Feb. 24, from 3-5 p.m. in the fifth-floor atrium at the Damon City Campus.
