African-American Theatre: An Academic Workshop

With support from the Black Student Union, this workshop will invite participants to explore challenges and achievements specific to the development of African-American theatre in the United States. As usual, light refreshments will be served.
Einstein’s Dreams

In conjunction with MCC’s Honors Institute, The Sixth Act is pleased to announce its full-scale production of an original adaptation of Alan Lightman’s award-winning novel Einstein’s Dreams. According to Catalyst Collaborative at MIT, Einstein’s Dreams is “a journey—alternately wry and wild, funny and intellectually stimulating, provocative and surprisingly moving.” All performances will be followed by facilitated discussion.
Second Annual Student Playwriting Competition
Staged Reading and Awards Ceremony
Thursday, May 7, 7 p.m.
The Black Box Theater
Free and Open to the Public, Reservations Required
This annual competition intends to encourage students to write plays for an audience; to provide students a competitive venue for their scripts; and to offer winning playwrights the opportunity to see their scripts performed and to receive constructive feedback for future play development. Scripts are currently being accepted for consideration.
Drama on Demand
Drama on Demand is an ongoing curriculum tool that brings student actors into literature classrooms, encouraging students to talk to each other across disciplines about theatre.
Formed in 2004, The Sixth Act aims to broaden and deepen an interdisciplinary appreciation of drama at MCC and to connect MCC faculty, staff, and students with events in Rochester’s theatre community. It seeks as its leaders faculty, staff, and students drawn from a variety of academic disciplines and departments.
