Introducing the FSA ID -the FSA PIN Replacement

The FSA ID (username and password) will replace PIN for students, parents and borrowers accessing Federal Students Aid (FSA) systems starting on April 25, 2015. The FSA ID will protect personal information and modernize access for students, parents, and borrowers to FSA systems

The FSA ID:

1.      Requires users to enter less information (2 fields instead of 4)
2.      Provides more secure access to user’s information
3.      Links to PIN information during registration
4.      Allows users to update personal information such as last name changes without applying for a new FSA ID (Lifetime ID)

FSA ID Frequently Asked Questions

1.     What happens for a new user?

•      Registration requests the same required information as PIN

•      New users will be directed to the registration page to create an FSA ID (Username and Password).

2.     What happens if a user has a PIN already?

•      During account creation, the user will be asked for their PIN.

•      As long as the PIN information matches their other information, the account will be linked to the FSA ID account.

•      Individual student, parents, and borrowers will transition to FSA IDs as they come back to interact with FSA systems.

3.     Will students and borrowers be able to access their previous FAFSA and loan information?

•      Yes.  The FSA ID will allow a student or borrower to access all the information that they can today with a PIN.

4. Will school and other professional access to student and borrower information be affected by the change to FSA ID?

•      No. The FSA ID is for students, parents, and borrowers to login to FSA’s student and borrower-based websites.
