April 26 – Take Our Daughters & Sons to Work Day – Call for Volunteers

The MCC Chapter of the American Association for Women in Community Colleges (AAWCC) is once again sponsoring Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day on Thursday, April 26, 2007.  To make this event a success we will need you!

With your help, children attending the event will enjoy a full day of educational activities and informative presentations.  Can we count on you to make a presentation?  Presentations are generally 50 minutes in length and run throughout the day (excluding the lunch hour).

The main objective of the event is to help our sons and daughters:

     -- Connect their school work with the real world;

     -- Share their vision, turning it into tomorrow’s reality;

     -- Figure out how their future work, home, and community life fit together;

     -- Explore a variety of job options and learn the types of things they like to do;

     -- Learn about the work their parents, mentors, and/or other relatives conduct and its importance to the workplace;

     -- Learn about the workplace—how it functions, its goals, mission, products and services;

     -- Discover there are limitless opportunities available to them;

     -- Build their self-esteem; and

     -- Understand the importance of sharing power and possibility, and through working together, that they can build a more equitable world.

This year’s presentations should be based upon the theme:  REVOLUTIONIZING THE WORKPLACE.

*** “REVOLUTIONIZING THE WORKPLACE through innovation” represents girls and boys thinking differently about their individual roles on the job, within their families, and within the community in order to live and work differently.

*** “REVOLUTIONIZING THE WORKPLACE by impact” allows girls and boys together to identify the changes that are needed at the workplace and in the world, which will enable them to lead better and healthier lives that accommodate all their dreams.

*** “REVOLUTIONIZING THE WORKPLACE through implementation” is about how the freedom to be who you are and the value and respect placed on the diversity you bring contributes to and creates a better workplace and world.

If you are interested in making a presentation at either the Brighton or Damon Campus:

     -- Email Marie Gibson or Vilma Morrow indicating your interest.

     -- Fill out the attached form and return it to either Marie Gibson (Brighton Campus) or Vilma Morrow (Damon Campus) by March 16, 2007.

Help us make April 26 a great day!
